Fatal Wedding Day 13: Wedding Favors

Sam and Nick want to thank you for helping to plan their wedding! They've given a lot of thought to a gift they could give their guests to remember their special day. In the course of their work as a police officer and as a U.S. senator, they see a lot of need in their local community. So in lieu of favors, they are going to make a donation in the name of each wedding guest to one of their three favorite charities. Nick left it up to Sam to decide what three charities to offer as choices, and she chose three organizations near and dear to her:

Charitable Organization 1

Washington D.C. Police Foundation

The Washington DC Police Foundation is a group of Washington area business and civic leaders who work with the D.C. Police Chief to promote better public safety across the District of Columbia.

The DC Police Foundation was formed in 2000 by Washington area business and civic leaders under the aegis of the Federal City Council to generate resources to support crime prevention programs and programs for at-risk youth.

The Washington DC Police Foundation works to support key unmet public safety needs identified by the Chief of Police of the Metropolitan Police Department and other public safety leaders in the District of Columbia. We do this by giving support to MPD and by engaging directly on public safety policy initiatives in the city.

The Foundation relies on financial support and in-kind resources from our members who include the business and professional community, retailers, faith-based leaders, civic leaders, philanthropic foundations, and individuals who are interested in improving public safety in our Nation’s Capital.

Charitable Organization 2

Big Brothers Big Sisters National Capital Area

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital Area is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of children through professionally supported long-term, One-To-One® mentoring relationships with carefully screened, caring and committed adults in Washington, DC, Northern Virginia and Suburban Maryland.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest, largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the Washington Region. We are the leader in One-To-One youth mentoring services. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of young people. Big Brothers Big Sisters mentors children ages 6 through 18 in our community.

Charitable Organization 3

The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation

The Reeve Foundation is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research, and improving the quality of life for people living with paralysis through grants, information and advocacy. The Paralysis Resource Center (PRC) offer resources on spinal cord injury, paralysis and mobility related disabilities.

They're all good charities, I don't know which one to choose. Maybe it could be a mixture of the three. The money Nick inherited could help, he doesn't seem comfortable holding on to it.

all excellent choices.

They are all good choices. Is there a way to give to all three?

All worthy causes, for sure. I like everyone else's idea of finding a way to give to all 3. If they HAVE to choose, though, I'd go with Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

ACK!!! Three great choices, so hard to pick one.

What a great favor idea! Its going to be hard to pick just one.

This is such a great idea. I hope this will inspire some of the readers of this novella to do something similar in their own lives.

They are all great causes, but I'm guessing that Sam would choose #3.

I agree with the others - all worthy causes, and all would be organizations both Nick and Sam would want to help. IF one has to be picked, I'm going with #3 - very personal for Sam and her family.

All wonderful causes of course. I'd go with #3 but I'm guessing with their means & generosity, that they will spread their wealth in the future.

What a great gift! All 3 are deserving charities.

But, if I had to pick one, I would go with #2 - I love any company that works with kids!

Thanks for the input everyone!

This is definitely something Chris and I want to do (although for breast cancer and alzheimers). My vote here goes to big brothers and big sisters...mentoring youth decreases the chance that they will wind up on the streey being chased by mpd or shooting people like sam's dad! And its plus points for nick and his stance on working w low income housing etc (bc we know nothing is beyond its political message bc of his career!)

Tough decision!! All are great choices.

all amazing choices, I'd like to find a way to do all three, but If I had to choose I would choose Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Making a difference in the life of a child, is an amazing thing

All great charities! Made my pick!

I don't think I can choose one. Can't they do some to each one. All are very good causes. If I absolutely have to pick one I think I will go with #3.

think they should divide whatever amount they are going to donate between the three

I'm going with Big Brothers and Big Sisters. I see this as helping the youth find their way out of trouble before they get involved with gangs and crime. I beleive this is something both Nick and Sam would see as a worthy cause

Those are all excellent--I'm going with the Police Foundation.

The Police Foundation helps the entire community, not just a small niche of it. Gotta go with that one.

Excellent charities! I chose #3.

All three are excellent choices...can we split? :)

Love all three charities, but had to go with the second, because it's nearest and dearest to my heart. Spent a lot of time tutoring and mentoring at boys and girls clubs in college :)

More tough decisions! But I think #2!
