Fatal Wedding Day 11: The Groom's Cake

Pssst... I'm going to let you in on a little secret that you'll hear more about in Fatal Book 3, Fatal Consequences, coming July 18: Nick is a rabid fan of the Boston Red Sox. He grew up in Lowell, Massachusetts, which is just north of fabled Fenway Park. In FC, you will meet a new FON: Friend of Nick's, who will ask Sam about doing something special for Nick at the wedding. This is what they come up with together:

Groom's Cake 1:

Groom's Cake 2:

Groom's Cake 3:

I think Nick will be thrilled with any of these special cakes, but I leave the choice up to you!

I have to say that this idea is so great!! We had a groom's cake for Brian but it wasn't nearly as fabulously fantastic as these!

I am going to have to spend all day contemplating which one to pick...not like I haven't had months...and I still can't decide!

This is awesome! As a die-hard member of the Nation, I love all the cakes!

It's hard to decide which cake to choose.

As a die-hard, card-carrying member of Red Sox Nation, I know which one I love! :-)

Coolest cakes ever!! I went with number 2, love it! :)

#3 is awesome! It doesn't even look like a cake. Very cool.

I suppose if you are a die-hard Sox fan, you are also a die-hard Fenway fan (that's the way it is in Chicago with Wrigley), so I had to go with #2 today. Cute idea! (I deleted my previous post due to a glaring typo!)

I'm still voting for the red velvet armadillo...

We had a grooms cake too, but being from the south, we had to gross it up. We had an alligator with red velvet cake, so it looked like the poor guy was bleeding when it was cut. Alligator cause I am from FL and the first time Keith went hunting with my family, he was run down by a gator, and he had never seen one before, guess it was pretty funny, so he got the nickname gator man.

Wow - good thing my kids can't see these cakes or I know what they would want for their b-day (except it would have to be the ANGELS)!!

Amazing cakes!

Great cakes. Tuff deciding, but going with #1 as it is sooo Red Sox but also far more easily served then #2. They can keep the main part just as the top of the wedding cake and serve the rest without ruining the effect. #2 awesome, but how could you cut it!

Morning all! I get to comment at 9am because we're having yet another snow day. Yay us! I know I will be SO complaining when I have to have 10 yr old boys in my classroom after afternoon recess in June (ewww), but for now, I'm definitely enjoying it. As a non-fan of baseball (please don't be hatin'), I am still very impressed with the cakes. I think it is fair to say Nick would like them all. I need to spend a bit longer making my final choice.

Wow, they all look amazing. I never even thought to have a grooms cake at our wedding, my husband would of died if we did something like this. Died in a good way :) I think I would have to go with #1 becasue 2 and 3 look to good to cut into :)

WOW!! Amazing cakes! This is a hard one!

3 awesome choices again. I went with #1 though.

Didn't know you were a Sox fan Marie. That's cool.

Well...2 & 3 are pretty extravagant, and I'm picturing the "Ace of Cakes" people doing one of these. They're in Baltimore, so they could do it. I bet they'd do cake #2 amazingly. So yeah...I'm going with #2.

Blodeuedd said...

I have to say cake 2 cos that is the most amazing cake I have ever seen

You had me at Red Sox fan.

Wow! Those are some fancy cakes! I love them all, but I'm going with #1. Love all the 'baseballs' around the base!

Growing up as a daughter and granddaughter of equally die-hard and fanatic Yankees fans, I don't know about Nick's choice in ball teams.. ::grin:: Still, it was great fun looking at these gorgeous cakes.

Ended up choosing #2 since Nick grew up close to his beloved ballfield.

As a rabid Red Sox fan myself, I loved all three cakes, but the hat was the best! Wish I thought to do that for my own wedding...

There are all so cool looking, #1 would be my choice, very yummy!

TGIF everyone! I love the idea of a grooms cake. We didn't have one at our wedding, and these are just amazing. Thanks for making me crave cake so early in the day!

I think they are all super cool! I l like the first one a little bit better though! We did not have a grooms cake for our wedding but this is a neat idea.

Going with #3 here - # 1 looks too much like a "cake" to me and #2 has been done to death. #3 is cool, very realistic and one you won't see everyday.

Love #1, classic with a bit of whimsy.

We didn't have a Groom's Cake at our wedding. I think Nick is going to like them all!

The first time I heard such a thing existed was when I read the Bride Quartet series. Not everybody does this, but I like the idea. #3, it doesn't even look like a cake. Imagine if somebody tried to pick it up :-)

*interrupts this wedding planning for an announcement*

If Knitsy stops by, or if any of you know her well enough to give her a shout, she might want to check out who won the Karen Hawkins book. ;-)

Hey wedding planners,
Come on by the RT Book Blog to hear about the "secret" behind keeping the love alive in book 2 of the Fatal Series: http://www.rtbookreviews.com/rt-daily-blog/keeping-love-alive-beyond-first-book

Danielle Gorman said...

Wow this one leaves me totally stumped. I think I'm going to pick the first one.

Louise said...

Too freakin' cool!!! I wish there was a parking lot in #2 that you could put baseball-shaped cupcake cars on. Otherwise I'm going to have to go with #2 as-is, because if you're gonig to make it a surprise, GO ALL OUT ACE OF CAKES-STYLE!

If only it had Fourth of July fireworks coming out of it....

Being a Yankees fan the Red Socks thing makes me shudder but because I'm a good sport I think #2 is awesome. Fenway screams Red Socks.

Marie Force said...

Jamie. My Yankee-loving friend. It's Sox. Sheesh. Do I need to teach you everything? LOL

these are some awesome cakes!

Wow! I'm most impressed by cake #2 but I, for one, would be reluctant to eat such a masterpiece so I voted for cake #1.

OMG, the Fenway cake! The Fenway cake!

Susan said...

Definitely cake two!! The detail is amazing!!!

Kay said...

I love the baseball cupcakes in #1, but I really love the stadium cake. That's just totally awsome...

Donna said...

Have to go with cake #2. It is amazing and who wouldn't want to have Fenway, but will Nick be able to cut it?

Jennifer said...

definitely loving all the choices... so hard to decide! and yes I am a member of Red Sox Nation, too! =)

Marie Force said...

I am so happy to have so many lovely Red Sox fans here! (And you Yankee lovers, too. The Yankees make being Red Sox fans more fun than it would be otherwise!)

Gah - I'm so torn between cake 2 and 3. Wasn't #2 a Charm City Cake? I like the simplicity of 3...
Also, I have to say - one of my friends is getting married this summer, and he LOVES arby's. Like... if he had a last meal, it'd be steak, arby's, and watermelon. [I guess we're morbid too...]
Anyway, we teased him about having an Arby's groom's cake - you know, when krispy kreme wedding cakes were all the rage...

Marie Force said...

LOL, Lime! Sounds like he need an Arby's cake!

As a huge BoSox fan, I love the second cake, and I think the groom would love to see Fenway like that on his big day. (I have such a crush on their captain, Jason Varitek)

I have to go with #2 and can't wait to see the smile on Nick's face when he sees it.

All the cakes are fantastic!
It's gotta be a guy thing -- my son-in-law had "Pistol Pete" Oklahoma State University groom cake. Bright ORANGE, of course!!
