RACHEL GIBSON scores a goal with SEE JANE RUN, and in my opinion, here's why:
This book is packed-full with smart, funny and provacative scenes, along with witty and saucy dialogue. The sparks fly - opposites attract - spit-and-fire sparring leads to spicy and steamy romance. An average plain "Jane" reporter gets her "Lucky" playboy hockey player! I just love when the plain, flat-chested short girl wins the game!!
Some of my favorite passages from the book are:
"You big dumb dodo!"
"What the heck is a body check?"
"What's this -- the I-don't-ever-want-to-get-laid-again-look?"
"I'll just take a moment of your time, and I'd prefer you not do your synchronized jock-dropping thing."
"You're a cute archangel of doom."
"You make me want to suck a bruise on you just to kiss it better."
"Look at all that testosterone on ice."
"Kind of like Campbell's Soup Stars on Ice?"
"No, kind of like a sperm bank."
"My body is a temple," he said around a bite of cauliflower.
"And anyone with long legs and big boos is welcome to worship," Jane added.
"This isn't hockey. There's no trash-talking in darts."
AND THEN there's the infamous "Lucky" tattoo (which, alone, makes this book a worthy -read!).
""He had a black horseshoe tattooed on his lower belly. The shadowing of the groove and nail holes gave depth and dimension to his flesh, and the heels curved upward on each side of his belly button. The bottom of the tattoo disappeared beneath the waistband of his underwear, . . . the toe of the horseshoe disappeared beneath his public hair and went clear to the base of his penis. A ribbon was tattooed just above . . . and tied from one side of the horseshoe to the other. LUCKY was written across it in bold black ink."
As Jane said, "I want to lick your tattoo."
SEE JANE SCORE is full of fun and highly recommended.
Recipes from our co-hostesses Jackie and Anne:
64 East Cheesecake
1 Block creamcheese softened
1 8oz Cool Whip
1/3 cup of sugar
1 graham pie crust
1 can cherry pie filling or other flavor
Mix creamcheese, sugar and Cool Whip together and place in graham cracker pie crust. Top with cherry pie filling
Greek Chicken Pitas
2 boneless skinless chicken breast or 8 boneless skinless chicken tenderloins
6 tablespoons lemon juice
6 tablespoons soy sauce
2 teaspoons oregano
1 clove of minced garlic
Place all ingredients in a storage bag and shake. Let sit for at least 30 minutes up to a day. Take meat out of bag and grill meat until done. Shredd or chop meat into pieces.
Serve the meat in pita bread and add your own toppings. We use lettice, english cucumber, red onion, cheese, alfalfa sprouts, greek olives, etc.
We top it with ranch dressing though you can use cucumber , olive oil, sugar, minced walnuts and plain greek yogurt to make a sauce with.

There is not a single thing I didn't like about this book!
From Jane's personality, to Luc's relationship with his sister, to the relationship that Jane develops with the team and of course...Luc's tattoo!
The book takes you through the full range of emotions but what I love about this book - and most of Rachel's books - is her ability to make me laugh out loud!
Welcome to book club everyone! Looking forward to the chat!
Same here Aly. Laugh out loud fun. I think I got into the most trouble waking up my husband laughing and finally had to move into the livingroom.
Rachel Gibson has been an auto-buy for me for years and this is one of my all-time favorite books. Her characters are just so much fun and the dialogue always has me laughing.
I loved this book. I love the scene on the plane where he's trying to see her chest and imagining what was under her blouse even though she wasn't his typical choice. I loved how Luc was with his sister. I'm still in love with his tattoo LOL.
Love, love, love this book! Rachel Gibson is an auto-buy for me.
Love Jane's personality and her sharp wit and sense of humor.
Luc is amazing...love how he is with his sister. Cracked up when he told her guys love it when are all covered up! LOL! LOVE the tattoo...so yummy!
I especially loved the scenese where Luc and Jane were playing darts. Their back and forth banter was great!
Can't say enough good things about this book!
I LOVE Rachel. The Hockey books are some of my favorites around. Plus, I love that they're in Seattle. :-)
Now, I have to know, Rachel, when you stop by....what exactly inspired Luc's tattoo? hmmmmm?
Truly Madly Yours, It must be Love and See Jane Score are the only books of Rachel Gibson that I don't own or haven't read. Something I am trying to fix. I picked up True Love and Other Disasters off the shelf and fell in love with the story and Rachel's writing. That book started my love affair with all books by Rachel Gibson and I have tracked down everything she has written minus those three. I can't wait to read See Jane Score, it sounds amazing and I love finding a book that can make me laugh and cry and be in a better mood when I finish a book than when I started it and Gibsons books do that for me :)
@Kris, her characters are fun.
@Mary, you and I had so much fun when I was reading this book.
@Jolene, this book it a must. I had so much fun reading this book.
@Ronlyn, I want to know the answer to that question too.
It must have been fun reading and knowing the places and area that were being talked about.
I loved this book! Rachel is an auto buy for me also.
I read this one on a plane and kept laughing out loud the flight attendant came over and asked what I was reading that was so funny and making me smile.
Ronlyn, I'm curious about the tattoo also.
Rachel, what inspired the books to be centered around hockey? I am a huge hockey fan, but just curious how you choose to write the series around this sport.
Marie, thanks for the bookclub, this is fun!
This was the book that started my Rachel Gibson glom.
I love this book and have reread it often and when I'm reading something that's not inspiring me I'll just pick this up in between to read and remember that books are supposed to make you laugh, think and dream of horseshoe tattoos in interesting places.
This book also has my favourite love scene - the second time they're together, they're on the road and not really speaking, they fight, she leaves, he follows, he's sweet, she's aggressive - whew, other books have a lot to live up to.
Love the Darcy overtones to Luc's perception of Jane 1. she's one of those natural women 2. she's got flawless skin and nice eyes, if she hadn't asked him if he was drugfree the moment they met, he might maybe think she was cute, 3. the archangel of gloom and doom looked sexy and warm 4. make over Jane, loosen your collar 5. why had he never liked natural women? You've got to love a hero who suddenly discovers he's not exactly how he thought he was.
My main reason for loving this book is that you see the characters believably and gradually fall in love with one another and know that this HEA has a chance of lasting becos it's based on something besides the great sex.
One small niggle, in Valentine's Day Luc gets mentioned and Jane has a cameo in True Love but you don't get any idea of how their life is progressing - are there kids, what's Luc doing now etc and i just really need to know.
Forgot to add, great recipes! Can't wait to try them out. Thanks, Jackie and Anne!
This is the kind of book I like! Sassy, witty & sexy!

Hmmm... I think we would all appreciate alittle more info on the origination of that tattoo!

@Lizzie R.
I totally agree with you it's a great review. Dare we hope that Rachael's next book "Any Man Of Mine" scheduled to be release on April 26th set in the hockey rink will give us another glimpse of Luc and Jane?
From Anne
@Monika
Have you read Rachel's "Daisy's Back In Town", "True Confessions", "Truely, Madly, Yours" these are older Gibson books that are among my favorites that hooked me on the genre.
Hey all,
I'm glad you all liked See Jane Score and picked it for your book club read. It's been a while since I wrote that book, but your discussion brings it back. I'd forgotten that Luke has a sister. I purposely wrote Marie into the book to torture Luke. I think there was a Teletubby, dolphin conversation with Marie that pained him. And of course Jane tortured him, too. I guess I just like to torture good looking, egotistical heroes.
Rachel Gibson
After reading Nothing but Trouble a few weeks ago! I have wanted to get all the books in the series. I saw that Marie's pick for the book club was going to be See Jane Score and ordered it and the 2nd one too, a few days ago! Sadly, its not here yet! I read some of the favorite passages and almost died! I want to read about this lucky tattoo! *drool*
I really enjoyed Rachel's style of writing. Smart, fun, sexy, and laugh out loud humor!
Thanks for the reciepes they look delish!
Nothing tortures a man like a teenage sister! LOL.
I am seeing this one everywhere, and people are telling me to read it, oh sweet peer-pressure :)
Rachel,
Thanks so much for coming by book club! We're so happy to have you!
Sorry to be quiet today--day job MADNESS! Glad you gals are holding down the fort for me!
Am I the only one that started paying a little more attention to hockey as a result of Rachel's books?
I have discovered that children and smart aleck heroines are the best way to torture heroes.
I love this whole series. The banter with the characters is great. I think my fav though is Faith and Ty ::swoon:: Rachel, like many of you, is an auto buy. I love her stuff.
Thank you, so much Rachel for stopping by. I know I am so looking forward to your new book coming out this April.
@ Bloedeuedd
Grab the book! It is asolute fun. Plus it will give you time encase you need to read the others before the next book comes out. :)
@ Tara
I put the 2 recipes that people have gone nuts over. They are both really good.
@Johanna
I love her books too. Such fun reads. My family will catch me laughing and want to know what all the fun is about.
@ Ronlyn, I am not into watching sports. But now I stop to checkout the hockey. Oh, and We even have a hockey team here! Can you believe it.
Rachel, you have sure got the formula down for the torture. I love the smart aleck banter and a great guy. Your books always make me laugh and are so much fun. Are you excited about your new book "Any Man of Mine" coming out in April?
@ Hope
I agree.
I love this book. I see a reread in my future. Rachel's books are an auto buy for me.
@ Jackie P
I loved Daisy's Back In Town also The Trouble with Valentines Day was amazing and I recently read Lola Carlyle Reveals All
Jackie,
I'm always excited to see a new book on the shelves. It's a bit scary, too. I never really know what readers will think of the book. Most of the feedback is great. Some not so much.
Any Man Of Mine is the last in the hockey series. I'm moving on to a series featuring war heroes. A few years ago, I wrote a book, Lola Carlyle Reveals All, which featured a former Navy Seal hero. I enjoyed writing about him, so I'm going to write a series with returned vets.
Rachel
I will be sad to see the last of the hockey books BUT me and ALOT of my book friends LOVE war heros. Combine that with you writing it, I can see a hit! THAT is something to look forward to! :)
@ Judy
When I need a laugh, I pick this book up. It is worn from all the rereads. :)
@ Jolene
I think Lola Carlyle Reveals All
is the only one I haven't read yet. I now have to grab that one for sure.
Rachel...no hints about how the idea for the tattoo came to you? LOL
Ahh, the tattoo. Well, his nickname was Lucky, so what better place then right above his . . . groin.
Hi there, just wanted to stop by and say hi to Rachel! I've read many of your books. I have the hockey series on my list of tbr's and I think they need to move up quickly. I'm a huge hockey fan and my son plays, so we live hockey. I can't wait to read this series. Thanks and hopefully the series will grow!!
Thanks Rachel. I've always wondered about the tat.
Love athlete stories but Navy Seals, Army, Special Ops are all faves. Just need your name on the cover.
Jackie, me too. SJS is on my night table. Anytime I don't want to start a new book at bedtime, I just open it anywhere & start reading. Just checked my Rachel list (yes I have a list) and I'm only missing:
Lola Carlyle Reveals All
It Must Be Love
Have but not read:
Daisy's Back in Town
Really wondering if I can convince Mr. Hackett to change his mind from the Koi half sleeve he is getting on Friday to a horseshoe in an interesting place. Doesn't hurt to try right?
Ro! you made it!!
I can't believe you haven't read these. tsk tsk.
Yeah, Ronlyn, I know, especially me being the total hockey mom. I'm ashamed!
Mary G said: Just need your name on the cover.
Do you say that to all your author friends, Mary? LOL!
I started reading Rachel's books when she first got published. I remember this because...A) I was looking for a new contemporary author, and B)it was the first time I ever bought a book because of its cover. I think the cartoon type covers were just beginning, and I thought they were kinda cool.
Anyhow...after the first book "Simply Irresistible", I was hooked and she was an autobuy. Who doesn't love a great sports romance?
"See Jane Score", is easily one of my favorites, and one I've read several times. Then her books started coming out on audio, and I got them all, and re-read them again. SJS is REALLY funny on audio too. The one-liners, two-liners, bantering, is stuff I just love.
I love that we got to see Jane again in "True Love and Other Disasters", but like another poster, sure wish we could have gotten more insight into what was going on with her and Luc.
Superb book(s) by a funny, gifted writer. One that I know I'll re-read again, and again.
Great blog you guys...you really did post the best quotes...such funny stuff!
Heather
Glad you stopped by Rosie and they are awesome books!
You would know Marie LOL. I'll read anything you write except maybe your shopping list. Of course that would depend what you are out of LOL.
@ Aly (snicker) :)
LOL, Mary! I would send you my shopping list, but I write them the same way I write my books: in my head. I never write anything down. Hmmm, hadn't seen that parallel before now. Interesting!
Mary G
We must snag this book. :)
Thank you, Heather. I just started grabbing audio books for the first time. Now since you liked them I am going to have to grab this one too.
@ Marie
Mary G/ Shopping list would be funny. :)
Jackie, I have ALL of Rachel's books on audio (all that are available). Love them, and the readers are really good (can't say that for all audio-books). I live in the DC area, so I live in my car some days...audio-books have saved my life during a bad commute. They keep down the stress and the fury at bad drivers factor! I don't feel like I've wasted my time in 2 hours of traffic...at least I got some reading done!
Heather
Heather,
I used to do that DC commute: 55 miles each way. I wish audio books had been in vogue then.
