Book Club: Too Much Temptation and a Visit with Lori Foster

We're so thrilled to welcome NY Times bestselling author Lori Foster to book club today. Book Club member Alyson Hackett suggested Too Much Temptation and when I asked her to tell me why, this is what she said:

First of all, Noah is 6'4". That alone is enough to make me love this book! There is just something about a tall man. And man is this book HOT!! Whooeeee!!!

The relationship between Ben and Noah is great. They didn't grow up together but are there for one another. The blend of their personalities works really well for me.

And of course Agatha. You kind of just have to love the ornery old bitch! She is one of those characters that you know means well but has no idea how to go about it without pissing everyone off!

And some quotes for you....

She leaned down and gave him a smacking kiss. "I'm going to love having sex with you."

As they locked fingers, Grace saw Agatha take note of the telling gesture. "Noah did not ruin me," she said, struggling for a calm she didn't feel, "even though I was more than willing to be thoroughly ruined."

Ben nudged Noah. "I never thought I'd hear Grace talking dirty to another woman. It's sort of a turn-on huh?"
Glaring, Noah smacked Ben in the side of the head.

I read this book years ago and re-read it for book club. It was fun and funny and sexy and all the things Aly identified. While I enjoyed the romance between Noah and Grace, I also enjoyed the rapport between Noah and his brother Ben as well as the cantankerous Agatha. What did you think? What were some of your favorite lines?

Lori will be here today to chat about this book and any of her others that the book club wenches wish to bring up, so go for it! Lori is giving away some goodies so make sure you comment to be entered into the drawing. Thanks again to Aly for suggesting such a fun book!

Read more about Lori and her latest books here.

Today we're serving up my famous Chocolate Chip Cheesecake

2 blocks of Philadelphia Cream Cheese (I've found the generic isn't as good) softened
1/2 cup of sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp of vanilla extract

Beat until the cream cheese is smooth and creamy. Stir in one cup of chocolate chips and pour into a ready-made graham cracker crust (I buy the largest one). Bake at 400 for about 40 minutes and then refrigerate. Serve cold. Enjoy!

Too Much Temptation is one of my all time favorite romance, one I can't forget no matter how many more I read afterward.

It is actually one of the very first contemporary romance novels I've read. It was recommended to me through amazon.com (I didn't know the online romance readers commnity then).

I remember the fun heart-warming parts but most of all I remember thinking "wow that's on HAWT book".Lol.

Great choice for a book club !

Thank you Marie for inviting me here, today!
And thanks to Alyson for suggesting Too Much Temptation as the book. Gracie was so fun to write. Usually the majority of my focus is on the heroes, but in this book, Grace just took over.

Emmanuelle, 9 times out of 10 when readers approach me with one of their favorites, it's either "Too Much Temptation," "Say No to Joe?" LOL. There's just something about those two books that my readers enjoy.

Thanks again everyone!

YEAH! I am so excited that Marie agreed to Too Much Temptation for Book Club! And that Lori is here visiting! This is fabulous :)

TMT is such a fun read. I find myself laughing at the interactions between the characters but specifically Noah, Gracie and Ben. And as I said to Marie, of course Agatha. Who doesn't love Agatha!

Part of my attraction to Noah is his height. Which is also a part of my attraction to Marie's Nick. My question to both of you is, do you find yourself writing taller heroes? Is there are specific reason for that?

Lori Foster aka L. L. Foster said...

Aly, my next book features a guy who is 6'5". But that's unusual for me. Most of the guys I write hover around the 6' mark. These days, that feels like an average height, with both men and women getting taller.
Myself, I'm only 5'2"... so to me, 6' is pretty tall.
Overall I like to write men who are Alpha, and the rest of their features vary. ;-)

Thanks again for the kind words on TMT!

Lori

Aly said...

We are getting taller? Really? LOL! I am barely 5'3".

I have no idea when my fascination with tall men started. Maybe from David James Elliott on JAG! But I do love the tall guys.

Lori Foster aka L. L. Foster said...

I think folks are getting bigger all over. I wear a size 6 1/2 shoe, but the different girls my sons date usually have size 10 feet. And they're very pretty feminine girls. They're all a head taller than me too. LOL

I think it's the steroids in the fast food. ;-)

I LOVE me some Lori Foster books -and yes, TMT and Say No to Joe are certainly up there. LOL The first LF books I read and loved though were the SBC books. Simon Says, Hard to Handle...oh.my. That series spurred me on to read anything by Lori I could get me hands on.
Question for Lori, when you are writing a series of books, how far into the series do you plan? For instance, in book one are you already thinking about that third book, or is it more spontaneous than that?
So glad you are here today!

Hi Marie and Lori! I have to admit I have not read TMT yet, its on my books to get list. There are just so many wonderful authors who put out such great books, it's hard to keep up, lol! And I must say now after reading those quotes from it I wanna read it that much more!

Have a wonderful day ladies!!!

Marie Force said...

Wow, you guys are off to an early start! I told Lori that we usually don't wake up and stretch around here until mid-morning, so of course y'all are up early for once! LOL!

Not sure why I made Nick so tall. I guess that's just how he appeared in my mind. There's a lot of chat about romance heroes getting taller and taller, but who doesn't love a tall guy? As for the ladies getting taller, my 15 y/o daughter is 5' 11" and has worn a size 10 shoe (like her mother) since 5th grade. My DH is a size 13 so our kids were destined to have big feet I supposed. My 12 y/o son is a men's 9, which I am told is pretty big for that age! I wonder how tall he will be when he hits HS?

Lori, I so enjoyed TMT all three times that I've read it over the years. It's one of those books that puts a smile on your face any time you read it. I'm looking forward to re-reading Ben's book, too. Someone refresh my memory about Say No to Joe? I must've read it b/c I've read most of Lori's books, but I am not recalling the plot off the top of my addled brain!

Aly, did you get coffee? Lori needs coffee in the green room to go along with her Oreos and Cheesecake....

Thanks to Emmanuelle and Aly and Kara for coming out to play early and Lori, thanks so much for being here!! Looking forward to your Reader Get Together in June! xoxo

Marie Force said...

Alinaduffer, thanks so much for stopping by. You will love TMT, so make sure you check it out! Nice to have you at book club! Come back again!

Lori Foster aka L. L. Foster said...

Hi Kara,
Great question - thank you. I'm pretty much a "seat of my pants" writer. For instance, I have a new series coming out in May, June and July. For the May book, "When You Dare," I knew Dare worked with Trace, so I assumed Trace would be the second book, but I let his character unfold naturally to make sure.
Trace IS the 2nd book, with "Trace of Fever." But I had no idea who the 3rd book would be until I was writing Trace's story and Jackson Savor showed up.
So Jackson is the 3rd book, in "Savor the Danger."
While writing Jackson's story, Arizona showed up, and her story will be the 4th. But until then, I had no idea an "Arizona" existed. LOL

In fact, going back further to Joe Winston's story... I was writing the other Winstons and had no clue there was a Joe until the black-sheep cousin showed up on the page and sort of took over. His sister, Alyx, later has a secondary story in Jamie's book, but until Alyx called Joe, I didn't know he had a sister.
I know, seems really weird, huh? But that's how the characters are - they pop up and tell me what they want to do and if their presence is strong enough, they demand their own story. :-)

Lori

Marie Force said...

OMG, Lori, I can so relate to that! Your description of how characters just appear and end up in books is exactly the way I write, too. I don't plan much of anything. I lay groundwork that can develop into story later, but often that stuff happens unintentionally. Hard to explain to people who don't write. They just think we're nuts, right? It's always great to hear from another seat-of-the-pantser! Makes me feel less alone with the crazy. :-)

Lori Foster aka L. L. Foster said...

Thanks Marie. I'm really looking forward to the Get Together too.
Anyone unfamiliar with it, details are here: http://www.lorifoster.com/community/readergettogether.php
It's a very fun, relaxed gathering of readers and authors, and some industry professionals. Only $50 for the whole weekend, which covers a Friday night pizza party, a Saturday continental breakfast, buffet lunch, and a buffet dinner. We have an enormous booksigning, a used book trade, and some really outstanding raffles!
Everyone is welcome!
Hugs,

Lori

Marie Force said...

The get-together sounds SO fun and I can't wait to go. I have heard nothing but great things about it.

I recently re-connected with a HS friend (thank you Facebook) I hadn't seen in 26 years. She came to Newport to see me last summer and she lives in Cincy so I am looking forward to seeing her again, too!

Aly said...

Would I leave you crazy ladies without your coffee? LOL! However, I will be sipping on my tea :)

Teri Anne Stanley said...

I have loved this book FOREVERRRRR. I think it's the first romance I read where the curvy girl gets the guy. You really nailed her insecurities, but gave her the courage to plow right on through them.

Would that any of my own heroines be as awesa-licious as Grace.

Marie Force said...

Aly,
Can you tell me if that tea is with or without caffeine? :-)

Teri,
I so agree about featuring a curvy heroine. I love that! I have an idea of one for a future book of mine. Who among us can't relate to having an extra curve or two hanging around? Actually, working two full-time jobs that put me on a computer for most of my awake hours has me with about 10 extra curves. Thank God for 5' 8" of height or I'd be one of those weebles who wobble and can't get up!

Lori Foster aka L. L. Foster said...

Thanks so much, Teri.
You know, I'm pretty sure that ALL women have insecurities. And if I ever meet a woman who doesn't, well, I might not want to be her friend. LOL.
Hugs,

Lori

I brought some coffee from Starbuck's, just in case Aly's was decaf. Here you go ladies!!

Ahhh, that's better!

Lori's books are one of my first finds when I first started reading with a vengeance. I think I've read everything so far. LOVE those Winston brothers!! Too Much Temptation was an awesome book too. Loved the bitchy granny and the brotherly banter.

I have wanted to go to the Reader/Author get together for a couple of years now. I'm still hoping I can squeeze it into my schedule!

oklanannie said...

Hi Everyone!

I'm a fan of "Too Much Temptation" too -- it seems so long ago I read it. Was it 2007?? I loved all the "Winston" books as well.

Lori, I'm really excited about your new "Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor" series. I've visited your website and read all the blurbs and excerpts. Sounds like the big and tall guys are in starring roles. I'm hooked -- can't wait for May and "When You Dare." Sounds like a really hot series and one filled with suspense as well. Just my kinda book!!!

Marie, glad to see you and Mr. Oreo have reunited!! His brother, Mr. "Mint" Oreo found his way into my life over the holidays in the form of Mint Oreo Truffles! I've since booted him out the door and am trying to go steady with Mr. Veggie! (Note: This romance is doomed, I can assure you!)

Hope everyone has a great day!

Marie Force said...

Hey Kris,
I hope you can get to Lori's event THIS year! LOL! Although I will probably see you in DC before then! I agree that Lori's books are addictive!

Anne,
I am snorting about your new romance. Doomed from the start. Trust me, Mr. Oreo's powers of persuasion are not insignificant...

Jackie P said...

Loved this book and the "Winston" books also. Looking forward to your next book. And if I remember right our very own Mary G was at Lori's event last year and she had a blast. :)

Mary G said...

Hi Marie & Lori
Hi Lori. I love your writing. I loved TMT - the chemistry was perfect. It's hard for me to pick a fave. The one that does stand out is My Man Michael. I love when an author goes outside the box. While I was surprised at the special element of the book, it was so believable and totally enjoyable.

I guess my most special book is Just a Hint Clint. It was the only one missing from my collection. I was lucky enough to find it at your event last year & you signed it for me. Loved the book - so funny with the heroine's "teacherness".

I have to say that going to your event last year was the highlight of 2010. It was great meeting so many fab authors & fellow readers & I've kept in touch with many of both who are expecting me back which is so nice LOL.

It's great to meet an author who is as wonderful as her books. Lori
didn't mention that her raffles raise money for wonderful causes & her hubby & son were there helping out. Hope to be there again this year but I might run into Marie OH NO!
Mary G from Canada

LOL Jackie - posting at the same time. Happy Birthday Girl!

Marie Force said...

Hi Jackie!
Nice to see you today! Everyone is so bright and early this week! It must be Lori's influence! :-)

Mary G, we will need to warn Lori if we are both going to be there. She might want to gather some bail money! My good friend Judy F. lives there and might come, too. Trouble I tell ya! Two of my longest-standing supporters in one place--that makes the trip totally worth it!

Marie Force said...

Jackie!!!! Today's your birthday? HAPPY HAPPY!!!!!!

Good morning everyone ::yawn:: - While I did love this book, my FAV from Lori is Just a Hint Clint, BUT, I also loved the Winston Brothers...HOT HOT HOT!!! I can't wait for the new books that Anne was talking about, I love me some...well anything, who am I kidding, not picky lol.

My question for Lori...Do you plan anymore SBC books? I love those.

Marie Force said...

Morning on the left coast already, Hope? :-)

Monie said...

Good Morning Lori & Marie!

Marie! I am happy that you chose something I have read! ;P

Lori, I have loved your books for a long time and TMT was one of the first I read. I LOVED it and I love the curvey heroine! My favorites are the SBC books. I am trying to figure out how to keep a curvey heroine in all my books! (Still working on the first one). I dream of going to your get-together but it is always during the end of the school year! It sounds amazing for writers & readers! Good luck! I look forward to reading more of your books!

Marie Force said...

Hi there Monie,
Glad we finally chose one that you have read! I'd LOVE to have you as a co-hostess one day if you have a much-loved book you'd like to bring to book club! Any time!

That goes for all y'all!

ronnadrane said...

Lori - I have to say my favorites were the brothers who kinda weren't....Sawyer, Gabe, Morgan and Jordan! Hubba Hubba. I loved that you topped it off with Casey's story! I have reread them. Must save I love the reissue covers!

Alison said...

Good Morning!

Wow, you guys have been busy this morning! Love the tall men...keep them coming! I haven't read TMT, but I think I better add it to my TBR pile!

Lori, I loved your SBC series!

Happy Birthday Jackie...Hope its a good one!

Monie said...

Oooooh! How fun would that be??? I will email you or hit you on FB about that!

I just haven't been reading lately and haven't had time to get what you choose. I am starting to get the reading itch and have a huge pile, but I should probably use that time to write!

Marie Force said...

Please do, Monie! Would love to have you!

Ronnadrane, welcome to book club! Great to have you here!! Feel free to sound off about anything and everything book related! We rarely hold back around here! :-)

Hi Alison--the girls went wild early this week! Nice to see you!

Good morning, ladies. What a pleasure it was to read all of the comments.

Hello, Marie ... don't know you yet, but put your name in my iPod's notepad for upcoming authors to check out.

Aly ... You picked a PERFECT book.

Lori, what can I say that I don't always say when it comes to your books? I might say I'm you're #1 fan, but I don't want to be committed. Although I love CR and ER and read lots of other authors, I will alwaqys go back to you, and read your books several times over.

For now, going to nap[ for a couple of hours before I have to head out into the freezing cold for pre-surgical testing.

Robin T.

Lori Foster aka L. L. Foster said...

Kris, I hope you can make it too! I guarantee you a good time! LOL

oklanannie, Yay. I've got my fingers and toes crossed that readers enjoy the new series as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Jackie P, thank you!

Lori

Marie Force said...

Hi Robin,
Welcome to book club! So happy to have you here and of course I need to know more about this pre-surgical training, do do tell us about that when you're up from your nap!

Thanks for adding me to your iPod. I'm delighted to be there. I LOVE reading on my iPod Touch. Best thing since Oreos!

Lori Foster aka L. L. Foster said...

Ah, Mary G, thank you oodles! Clint was fun with his special brand of vulnerability.
And yes, I LOVE giving back to the community when I can. Kids and animals... my favorite projects. The event allows me to contribute to those causes in a bigger way.
We also do a special romance anthology each year where all the proceeds go to a great cause.
And yup, hubby is always at the event to help out, and whichever of my sons is available pitches in too. Last year it was Aaron and Jake. The year before (or the year before that!) Mason was there. They're terrific guys!

Lori

Lori Foster aka L. L. Foster said...

Morning Hope!
Thanks for the feedback. As of right now, I don't have any more SBC fighters planned. But I never say never. If a story drops onto my brain, then sure, I'd write it.
:-) That's the joy of being a panster... we write whatever story is most bugging us at the time.
LOL

Hugs,

Lori

Marie Force said...

Lori,
I have a Jake too! Love that your event supports so many charities. Happy to participate in something that does so much good! :-)

Lori Foster aka L. L. Foster said...

ronnadrane, thank you. The Buckhorn Brothers... funny set up, right? Sawyer and Morgan had the same father, but then Gabe and Jordan were each from different fathers. Their momma got around. LOL But of course, she DID find true love in the end.
The brothers will always remain some of my favorites. I sooo enjoyed their quirkiness.
And Casey... I got to sort of "grow him up" in the books, so giving him his happy-ever-after was pretty satisfying.
The reissue covers are SOOOO much better than the icky originals, thank heavens!

Hugs,

Lori

Marie Force said...

Meant to say--that cover of TMT--whooo. That guy is HOT HOT HOT! Love him.

Marie Force said...

Clearly Robin doesn't really KNOW you yet, Hackett. Give her time...

Ronlyn said...

Wow, you guys got an early start this morning! LOL.
Aly twisted my arm into reading Too Much Temptation awhile ago. It's one of those books that I've had sitting, waiting for me, but never quite managed to start.
So, friendly pressure (ha!) and I was hooked.
Such fun. The relationship between the brothers is wonderful. And I admit to being hooked right from the start. WHO was the fiancee sleeping with...and WHY wasn't it Mr. Yummy?! My oh My!!
Wonderful to "meet" you Lori. :-)

now...off to read the comments....

Lori Foster aka L. L. Foster said...

Ronlyn, hope your twisted arm feels better. ;-) I'm so glad that after that, you enjoyed the book! LOL

Thanks,

Lori

Ronlyn said...

Lori, Aly is now twisting my arm into getting up wayyy too early (for me) and making do without coffee for a work out. I'm still trying to figure out why I put up with her. hehe...
But, I'll forgive her for "making" me read.
What do YOu read in your down time?

Lori Foster aka L. L. Foster said...

Ronlyn... downtime? What's that?
LOL
Okay, when I read - which sadly isn't very often any more - I LOVE Kresley Cole. She's my go-to author when I have a little free time to indulge a book.

Have fun with the workout! Har.
;-)

Lori

Marie Force said...

Morning Ms. Howe! Nice of you to join us from Seattle! :-)

Ronlyn said...

yeah, "downtime" was a bit tongue in cheek there. LOL.
I believe I have a Kresley Cole waiting for me on my shelf...I may have to grab that one next. Then I'll blame you for "making" me read. ;-)

Morning Ms. Force. Morning got here early today....Seattle is still sort of dark.

ronnadrane said...

What started your interest in fighting? I noticed you are quite the avid follower of UFC!

Lori Foster aka L. L. Foster said...

Ronlyn, my first book by her was "A Hunger Like No Other," and I loved it. Totally hooked. But Cadeon's book... whatever that title was, is my fave.

Lori

Marie Force said...

Lori,
If we're not wearing out our welcome too badly... Could you tell us a bit about your "typical" (word used loosely) writing day, your favorite of all your characters and maybe which one of your books is the "book of your heart," if you have one...

If we've used up our allocation of time, today, no worries! We appreciate your wonderful participation!

Lori Foster aka L. L. Foster said...

Ronnadrane,
I've been watching MMA since the beginning of the UFC, back when it was no-holds barred without weight classes. It's a fascinating sport, but what really got me hooked was my sons being wrestlers.
We'd watch the UFC and Pride fighting, and if a grappler (aka wrestler-type) was fighting, he'd almost always win. It was fun to see how that ground game outshone kick-boxing and boxing.
Now the sport is refined and it's even better. There is no one discipline. The guys are very well rounded with a great stand-up game, good grappling, good submissions... they're like the ultimate athletes. And most of them (notice I say most) are very nice, articulate, educated family guys. Such fantastic contrasts!
:-)
I hope that answers your question!
Hugs,

Lori

Lori Foster aka L. L. Foster said...

No problem, Marie.
Typical writing day:
Up anywhere from 4:30 to 6am.
I tend the animals first - doggy out to piddle, cats get fed, etc... then it's coffee time, and I drink that with my emails and social networking. :-)
I probably spend 2 hours a morning answering the 200+ emails I get each day and checking in on FB and twitter.
I always start my day by investigating the news online too.
Then I hit the writing and I stay at it usually till 4pm, but sometimes later depending on deadlines.
Even when I'm not at the desk writing, I carry around a notepad and pen because the further I get into a story, the more specific the dialogue gets in my head, and the more scenes unfold. If I don't write it down, I forget it.
If I do write it down, I seldom ever have to look at the note to remember it. Weird, huh?
I love to burn heavily scented candles while writing. Floral or spice, nothing that smells like food.
And I love to listen to my music, which is a mix of favorites heavily favoring Kid Rock, KORN, Marilyn Manson, Uncle Kracker, etc...
But truly, my writing day varies depending on what's going on and how much family visits. LOL

I have a few favorite books. "When Bruce Met Cyn" and "Caught in the Act" are two of the more emotional stories that grabbed me.
"White Knight Christmas" from an anthology is special to me because of the Christmas message.
And one that I think is the funniest is "Playing Doctor," with Axel. He just cracks me up.
Oh, and "My House My Rules," with Sam. Such over-the-top Alphas are always a blast to write. ;-)
Hugs,

Lori

Yummy! Lori, this is one of the first romances I remember reading when I got back into reading grown-up books :) Grace is such a fun heroine to get to know, and I love the entire cast of characters. One thing I enjoy about your books is getting some great secondary characters, and then seeing you create their stories, too. LOVE that!

Hope said...

I downloaded the Buckhorn brothers to my Nook just the other day. Just a few (hundred) books in front of it, but I swear I will get to them, I love stories like that.

Kris and I are going to try and come in June...That is my birthday month, so I think I will be able to finaggle a nice little book trip :)

And yep, I'm already letting those birthdays slide right on by--no need to slow down, people! Nothing to see here ;)

I sure hope I can attend one of your Get-Togethers one of these years--Lori, I've heard nothing but good things about them from readers and authors alike, and it sounds like the perfect size to have the chance to meet some favorite people and go all fan-girl on them :)

Thank you for a wonderful time today, everyone. Now I'm off to brave the fresh snowfall to see a program at my grandson's school.
Take care, and enjoy your upcoming weekend!
